Rising Higher by the Year
Hansdas Yadav, Khargone, Madhya Pradesh
Problem
- Erratic weather and pest infestations
- Unpredictable market prices
- Dependence on traditional open-field methods
Result: Unstable yields, low profit, and financial uncertainty.
Crops
- Chilli nursery
- Mixed vegetables
Field area: 361 sq. m.
The Turning Point
In April 2022, Hansdas was selected to receive the Kheyti Greenhouse. Along with the structure, he received hands-on training in irrigation, pest management, and nursery techniques.
The support helped him transition from open-field farming to a more controlled, reliable, and profitable cultivation model.
The Journey
In his first crop cycle, Hansdas chose to cultivate a chilli nursery inside the greenhouse. Applying his learnings diligently, he earned ₹90,000. It was far more than his open-field income. The success strengthened his confidence and proved the value of climate-smart farming.
Encouraged by the results, he refined his methods in 2023 with improved seed selection, timing, and market planning. His chilli nursery flourished, fetching a profit of ₹1,85,000. This marked a breakthrough.
By 2024, Hansdas had mastered the process and diversified his cultivation. His nursery business became a steady source of income, supplying high-quality seedlings to neighbouring farmers. He earned ₹1,50,000 that season.
Over time, the greenhouse also transformed him into a local example of modern, sustainable farming.
